Barros Silva Varela & Vigil was part of the international group of lawyers that advised Novo Holdings on its deal to acquire Norwegian fish genetics company Benchmark Genetics from Benchmark Holdings plc for up to £260 million.

Based in Bergen, Norway, Benchmark Genetics is a leader in salmonid genetics, providing eggs and other genetic services to both traditional and land-based fish farmers, operating in Norway, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Chile and other major geographies.

The transaction is expected to be completed during the first quarter of 2025, subject to shareholder approval and receipt of certain regulatory approvals.

BSVV's participation was led by partner Jorge Vigil and associate Tomás Fontaine, both from the M&A practice. The labour advisory was led by partner Roberto Lewin and senior associate Paulina Rivera. Novo Holdings was advised globally by the London office of Latham & Watkins.
